Toronto based saxophonist & composer Ben Truman’s performance experience includes major festivals and venues in Canada as well as international performances in Europe and the U.S. His most recent performance projects include the international modern jazz collective Underground, and a Toronto-based, self-titled quintet.
Ben has formed, managed and artistically directed a diverse set of projects ranging from concert music to creative crossover projects with world, folk and popular genres. As a performer and composer Ben has been recognized and supported by several arts organizations in the public and private sector. He has studied with Canadian luminaries such as Tim Ries, Andrew Downing, Gary Kulesha & Terry Promane. As a performer, composer and facilitator, Ben's Style reflects a broad spectrum of expression, and a willingness to seek out new directions.
Ben's first recording as a leader was 2011's quintet record "Bronchitis". The Underground collective, under Ben's leadership released their debut album on Reaction Records in the Spring of 2012, with their sophomore release scheduled for the Spring of 2013.
